Cold Steel Imperial Katana

Imperial katana review by Sam Wong
Since it is a modern production sword, you should not expect this katana to be as good as traditionally made blades. Nonetheless, the carbon steel used in the creation of the blade ensures its quality. In fact, the overall build quality is excellent especially considering the price at which it is being sold.

The tsuba, the kashira and the fuchi have all been crafted finely with the help of nickel-silver brass. This material has also been used to create the habaki. This material imparts aesthetic benefits while adding to the strength of the katana. The tsuka has been wrapped with black cord in the traditional style.

As for the blade, it is quite sharp. As such, it must be wielded with care. Moreover, the blade has been polished with care by hand. Special attention has been given to the blood groove which sports a distinct mirror finish. Finally, a beautiful Menuki has been inserted which improves the overall aesthetics significantly.

You will not have any problems with this katana. On the other hand, this is not the right choice if you want a traditional katana for your collection.

All components of the Imperial Katana 88K from Cold Steel have been fitted perfectly which eliminates rattling. The weight and the sword balance are also excellent. The construction also ensures its durability. As such, it is the perfect katana with which you can start your very own collection.

This is a fancy looking good cutter but definitely not a traditional Japanese sword.
