Thaitsuki Sokueto Hondachi Katana Review by Marcel Laurent
There are many things that are worth talking about if you look closely into the different features of the Samurai sword. The blade of the sword is of the short fuller (bo-hi) and silver habaki collar style. Silver is a very nice choice as a Japanese design that gives the habaki some extra detail.
The blade of the Thaitsuki KTN5 comes in Koto style and is made up of high forged steel. Apart from this, the blades are also heat treated, clay coated and hand polished that helps to give it an edge of 35 HRC body and 60 HRC body. The blades are forged, sharpened and polished by hand and hence are one of the finest Katana blades that you can ever find.
The Saya of the sword has a substantial-built structure that makes the wood go thick and heavy. It has got a nicely applied lacquer that gives it glossy and vibrant sheen. The sword has a good assembly fit that is reinforced with buffalo horn Kojiri and Koiguchi.
The fuchi, tsuba, kashira katana fittings are made of blackened brass fittings and silver accents. The seppa and the habaki are likewise made of handmade silver. The two silver menuki lie beneath the knot of the Ito grip wrap. The other visually striking feature is the Silk White silk Sageo and the silver ornate Kurigata.
All the edges of the blade have been keenly honed and have undergone several cutting tests.
This katana is definitely a good choice for about $1500.
I bought the katana in an American store and it was a little problem to get it to France due customs obstacles but i handled it well afterall.
If you are an European martial artist, check with your local customs before buying a katana abroad because the EU law really sucks.
