Thaitsuki Dokuji Nami Sanmai Katana Review by Roman Malinowski
Thaitsuki has made a name for itself by manufacturing a great katanas and the Dokuji Nami Katana is a very good example of their work. This katana is not meant to be a decorative item although it is most certainly beautiful. Instead, it is a wieldable katana that can be used in competition cutting and sword arts.
The Dokuji Nami katana is perfectly functional. As such, you should not treat it as a replica as it is first and foremost a weapon. Thaitsuki has ensured that its edge is extremely sharp. In fact, it is quite possible to cut through a 7 inches thick bamboo with only a single stroke.
Another specialty of this katana is that it has been made by hand. Japanese high carbon steel has been used to forge this weapon ensuring that the blade is not only strong but also flexible. The hamon is also perfectly visible. The blade also has a bo-hi which decreases the weight of the katana without decreasing the strength at all.
The beauty of the katana is just as impressive as its performance. White samegawa has been used to cover the tsuka. The tsuka-ito has been crafted from the beautiful Japanese blue silk. Along with the polished copper tsuba, the katana looks quite amazing. The saya has been crafted by hand from dried poplar wood to ensure quality.
My katana came well packed in a reasonable time frame of 3 weeks.
The cost of the Dokuji Nami Katana can be a deterrent for some people. On the other hand, the price is just right for a katana of this quality and construction.
Serious collectors will find that the katana will be a solid addition to their collection irrespective of the price. Those who practice sword arts or participate in competitions will also like this katana due to its performance attributes and sharpness.
I heard the Thaitsuki quality improved in years. Current katanas are very good while the older ones suffered by a bad quality control.
Beautiful sword!!!
