Katana replicas are rarely known for their quality. However, this is not the case with the Ryumon RY-3049. It is a decent katana inspired by the famous Japanese legend.
From the very first glance, you will realize how good this replica actually is. The blade of the katana has been hand forged of 1095 high carbon steel. Of course, the material is of a good quality. However, the forging method increases this quality even further. More importantly, the entire blade has been sharpened by hand allowing the edge to achieve a finesse you will not easily find in a replica katana.
The design of the katana is made to resemble the swords that were manufactured traditionally during the era of the story of the 47 ronin. The tsuba features the use of blackened copper to suit the theme of the legend. The tsuka has wrapped with black cotton and rayskin further adding to the aesthetic requirements of the theme. Finally, the kashira and fuchi has also been crafted from blackened copper. This katana is sold with a saya that has been crafted from black lacquered wood. As such, there is nothing to complain about the subtle yet powerful design of the blade. However, the hamon is fake.

The Story of the 47 Ronin
This is one of the more interesting events in samurai history that took place during the 18th century. The incident took place after Asano Naganori, a daimyo, was forced to commit seppuku for assaulting Kira Yoshinaka, a court official. 47 samurai who served under Naganori decided to band together and kill Kira in order to restore the honor of their master. However, they also had to commit seppuku for this act under the honor code of the samurai.
