There is no doubt about the quality of the Ocean Katana from Citadel. It is a stunning blade that evokes scenes of the sea and ocean, the very theme of the katana. The katana possesses a good balance and is quite agile.
The Features of the Ocean Katana
1075 high carbon steel has been used to forge the blade of this beautiful katana. The hamon is brilliantly visible that underlines the differentially-hardened tempering procedure used. The blade has been polished by hand with careful attention to detail.
The presence of an elongated bo-hi groove decreases the weight of the katana without sacrificing any strength. At the same time, it makes a wonderful sound as the blade is swung in the air. The tsuba has been cut by hand. The tsuba, kashira and the fuchi have all ben crafted from pure iron and adorned with powerful waves keeping in mind the oceanic theme of the katana.
The tsuka of the katana is just as beautiful. Made out of wood, it has been wrapped completely by rayskin samegawa, a feature that can be found in only a few swords in the market. The samegawa is further wrapped by white silk tsuka-ito tightly. Both components have been dyed with tea to achieve a light tan effect. With use, the tone will darken and mature. The saya is also made from wood. The glossy black lacquer accentuates the beauty of the scabbard.
The High Cost
The Ocean Katana is very costly but it is to be expected. After all, this is a genuine katana made by masters. As such, beginners may not be able to afford this sword. Moreover, this is a limited edition katana. Only 100 Ocean Katana pieces are available and each of them is numbered.
